Understanding Partnerships

Understanding the structure of your partnership can help you achieve the best outcome to a dispute.

The concept of being ‘in partnership’ may seem simple, but it can be complex and can cover a variety of different types of legal structures.

Whilst some types of partnership are far more common than others, it is key that you understand which structure applies to your situation. This will provide the insight you need to understand your rights and responsibilities as a Partner and achieve the best resolution in any dispute.

There are three main types of partnership in England and Wales:

  • A general partnership.
  • A limited liability partnership (often called an ‘LLP’).
  • A limited partnership.
